Floyd County received more than 9 inches of rain in January, helped along by more than 2 inches of rain that fell during Wednesday’s storm.

The National Weather Service uses the weather station at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Armuchee to record official rainfall numbers.

At the airport, 9.24 inches were reported for January, well above the 4.76-inch monthly average.

The Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network, which measures rainfall at the University of Georgia’s Northwest Georgia Experiment Station off Old Bells Ferry Road, recorded 9.53 inches of rain.

That is the most recorded at either station in recent history.

Today’s forecast calls for a mostly sunny sky with a high near 38 degrees.

Saturday calls for a high near 52 degrees, with a 20-percent chance of showers.

Sunday calls for a mostly sunny sky with a high near 54 degrees.
