This is a positive sign as it is no secret this important effort has struggled, as have many of its contributors, during the economic downturn. In 2008 the goal — just as the Great Recession hit — was $1.5 million. The year before, $1.2 million was considered do-able.
This year’s positive result, as is normal, was led by strong employee/corporate contributions from a variety of reliable givers.
It is good to see this vital charitable effort getting back to blowing the top off its red thermometer signage as this hints things are getting back to normal, or at least improving, after the general period of economic anguish. Setting the goal back at $1.5 million, as it was in 2008, should be the next step. The level of need sure hasn’t gone down, after all.
