‘Mathletes’ win region competition

Faith Horton from Rome Middle School was the top individual scorer at the regional finals of the MATHCOUNTS competition at Georgia Power Auditorium in Rome this month.

The competition was sponsored by the Northwest Chapter of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers.

A team of “Mathletes” from Dalton Middle School took first place, followed by Heritage Middle School and LaFayette Middle School respectively.

Other Dade Middle and Rome Middle schools also participated.

MATHCOUNTS is a national mathematics coaching and competition program and is nationally sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. It is designed to increase enthusiasm for and advance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.

Local sponsors included Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power and Domino’s Pizza.
