Local residents who want a hand in vetting a new special purpose, local option sales tax package have until close of business Monday to put their names in the hat.

The Floyd County Commission is accepting applications through 5 p.m. from people who want to be considered for appointment to the 2013 Citizen SPLOST Committee.

Applicants must be registered to vote in Floyd County.

The committee will make recommendations on public projects and capital purchases in Rome, Cave Spring and the unincorporated area for funding through a 1-cent tax.

City and county officials would have the final say on the package, which is slated to be finalized in September and put to a vote in the Nov. 5 general election. The 2009 SPLOST collection ends June 30.

Anyone interested in serving on the Citizen SPLOST Committee may contact County Clerk Kathy Arp at 706-291-5110 by the deadline. The application also is available through the joint city-county website at www.romefloyd.com.
