HURTSBORO, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say the killings of a man and a woman found shot to death inside a car in Russell County might be connected to an earlier shooting in Macon County.

Russell County sheriff's officials say the killings occurred Monday night near the small community of Hurtsboro.

The Russell County coroner identified them as 35-year-old Reginald Berry of Pittsview; and 27-year-old Michelle Denise Buchannon of Opelika.

Sheriff Heath Taylor tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that both were shot multiple times. Their bodies were found slumped over in the car.

The sheriff said Berry was at a party earlier that night in Macon County, where a person was shot and wounded. Investigators suspect that suspects might have been seeking revenge against Berry or trying to eliminate witnesses from the earlier shooting.
