He told the story of Elizabeth Buchannon, whose grave he found in Armuchee, and how he discovered who she was and how she had lived her life.
The largest crowd to attend the FRREA meeting thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.
Roper earned his law degree from the University of Georgia and began his legal career with Smith, Shaw and Maddox, where he became a partner in 1992.
His articles and photo essays have been featured in “North Georgia Journal” and “Georgia Backroads” for many years and he was a contributing author to “A North Georgia Journal of History,” Volumes I-IV.
Roper was awarded the Magazine Association of Georgia’s Best Series award for his “Vanishing Georgia” articles.
He is the winner of the United Daughters of the Confederacy’s Jefferson Davis Medal, a member of the Georgia Historical Society and a past director of the Rome Area History Museum.
