As a new Publix rises at the intersection of North Fifth Avenue and Turner McCall Boulevard, all of the smaller outparcel buildings planned for the new shopping center should start coming out of the ground soon as well.

The Rome Floyd Building Inspection office has already approved permits for all of the outparcels.

“It will all be completed by that October time-frame,” said Charles Worthen, a principal with Madison Retail. “The shops don’t take as long as the Publix because you don’t have all of the interior finish-out requirements.”

Worthen said the whole shopping center would come together at the same time.

“When Publix opens their doors, which I think is still October, the shops will be completed,” he said. “A lot of the tenants will open up at the same time.”

Madison Retail personnel have previously confirmed that the AT&T phone store would relocate from Second Avenue and Turner McCall to the new shopping center. A La Parilla Mexican restaurant, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Benchmark Physical Therapy, Fantastic Sam’s Hair Cuttery, Sun Tan Hut, and Spa One Nails also have committed to the Charles Hight Square project.

Plans approved by the Building Inspection office show construction on three outparcels.

Building A, at 11,135 square feet, fronts on Turner McCall Boulevard closest to the Floyd Medical Center parking deck. Building B, with 17,583 square feet, is closest to the intersection of Turner McCall and North Fifth Avenue. Building C, on the Fifth Avenue frontage across from the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority high-rise, encompasses 10,870 square feet.

The housing authority is still-fine tuning plans for a new administrative office building, which will be located between Publix and the FMC parking deck on the northwest corner of the property.

Leasing executives with Madison did not return calls from the Rome News-Tribune on Friday.
