WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Tom Graves of Ranger will not run for Senate in 2014.

The news, delivered in an interview with the AJC, is not particularly shocking given the difficulties Graves would have faced against some of his more seasoned U.S. House colleagues, but Graves used the interview to make the point -- unsolicited and repeatedly -- that he still has statewide goals.

“This is just the beginning of a long journey for me in Georgia state politics,” said Graves, who is a boyish-looking 43 years old. Later the self-described "country boy who grew up in a single-wide trailer" added: "The future is limitless for me and there's going to be plenty of opportunities to serve, and we’ll look forward to those in the future."

This guy understands banking real well. And with those nice speeches he gives on "living within your means" and "look at me- I grew up in a trailer and now look- I'm in Congress" - it is inspiring. I think it is best for anyone to want to go as far as they possibly can - and even better if we all help them pay for it and live within our means and pay our bills and be honest when we accept a loan from a bank that we intend to pay it back as promised (on notebook paper or otherwise). We all make mistakes- we learn, we grow except that some get to use your tax money to learn with and then have you keep voting them back in. Gotta love it. My child said I want to be president- i said aim higher- you can steal more over a longer period of time in Congress or the Senate.
