Lady Vikings win, Vikes fall in tennis

The Berry College women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 after an 8-1 win over St. Mary’s University. The Lady Vikings won every match except at the No. 6 singles position.

Berry’s list of winners included top-seeded Jenn Tinnell defeating Lindsey Reinisch 6-1, 6-0, and second-seeded Emma O’Reilly beating Deanne Weber 6-0, 6-0.

Also, third-seeded Cailtlin Smith downed Lexi Felten 6-0, 6-0, fourth-seeded Kaleigh Carpenter beat Katie Krull 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6-0), and fifth-seeded Heidi Seabaugh beating Grace Zachman 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, the top-seeded tandem of Jenn Tinnell and Emma O’Reilly rolled to an 8-0 win. Cailtlin Smith and Kaleigh Carpenter won 8-0 at No. 2, and the team of Lib Lockett and Anna Kate Shpeherd won 8-3 at No. 3.

In men’s action, St. Mary’s (Minn.) defeated Berry, 8-1, on Tuesday morning at Sanlando Park.

The only victory for the Vikings was by Jake Pullen at No. 6 singles.
