Mrs. James Elvis Garrett
The bride is the daughter of Oliver and Shirley Hutchins of Lindale. Her grandparents are the late H.V. and Ruth Hutchins, and the late Jerry and Odessa Riordan.
The groom is the son of the late Homer and Fonda Lorton Garrett. He is the grandson of Waneta Lorton of Collinsville, Ill., the late Gerald Lorton, and the late Hugh and Zelda Garrett.
The Reverend Ted Fuller of Rome performed the double-ring, candlelight ceremony before an altar decorated with a silver 15-branch arch candelabra, two silver 17-branch heart-shaped candelabra, and a silver unity candelabra, all adorned with lavender rose garlands and sheer white satin bows. The windows of the church were decorated with hurricane globes nestled in candle rings of ivy featuring miniature lavender flowers and a sheer, sparkling silver butterfly adornment. Family pews were marked by sheer white satin.
The communion table was draped with a lavender satin table runner and a hurricane globe with a lighted taper sitting atop a mirrored base. In the vestibule, programs outlining the wedding ceremony were placed on a marble stand in a silver basket decorated with the bride and groom’s initials.
The guestbook table also featured a lavender satin table runner and a hurricane globe with a lighted taper sitting atop a mirrored base in memory of the bride’s grandmother, the late Odessa Riordan, and the groom’s grandfather, the late Gerald Lorton.
Pre-wedding music was presented by the daughter of the bride, Noelle Holder, with Nicholas Blankenship on guitar and included a rendition of “Thank You” and “Amazing Grace.” Noelle also sang “Longer” during the lighting of the unity candle.
The lighting of the candelabra was done by Jon Ward and Nicholas Blankenship.
Music included “Spring, op. 8/1 in E major,” “Mairi’s Wedding,” played on the bagpipe’s by Martha Theil, sister of the groom and “Scotland the Brave,” played on the bagpipes.
The bride, given in marriage by her children and escorted by her son, Smith Holder, wore a charmeuse gown with a V-neck halter top featuring a ruched surplice bodice. The drop waist and the godet chapel train were adorned with beaded embroidered appliqués. She wore a single-tier, elbow-length veil outlined with hand-sewn beads and sequins. She carried a bouquet of lavender silk roses with pearl-wrapped stems and featuring a butterfly broach made with lavender stones which was presented to the bride by her sister. She also wore a strand of pearls given to her by the groom on Valentine’s Day in 2012, and a silver diamond bracelet borrowed from her best friend.
The maid of honor was the daughter of the bride, Noelle Holder of Silver Creek. Bridesmaids were Sherry Ward of Maiden, N.C., sister of the bride, Julie Crumbley of Rome, and Tracy Garrett (in absentia) of Virginia, Ill., sister-in-law of the bride and groom. They wore lavender satin, floor-length gowns of varying designs and carried bouquets of lavender and crème-colored silk roses with hand-tied stems of lavender satin. The crème-colored roses were taken from flower arrangements used in the wedding of the bride’s sister in 2009.
The best man was Roy Garrett of Virginia, Ill., brother of the groom. Groomsmen were James Garrett II of Joaquin, Texas, son of the groom, Jeremy Garrett of Sherman Oaks, Calif., son of the groom, and Jon Ward of Maiden, N.C., brother-in-law of the bride and groom.
The groom wore a black suit with a white satin tie, and a lavender silk, double-rose boutonniere. Groomsmen wore black suits with lavender satin ties, and lavender silk, single-rose boutonnieres.
The mother of the bride wore a pantsuit featuring a sequined fuchsia top and a light pink, long-sleeved linen jacket. The aunt of the groom (standing in for the groom’s late mother), Rita Lorton of Collinsville, Ill., wore a purple suit featuring a soft lace overlay and a floor-length skirt. They wore corsages of white satin roses adorned with sprays of lavender crystals.
After the ceremony, a reception was held in the Christian Life Center. Refreshments included the bride’s four-tiered wedding cake sitting atop a silver stand featuring white, buttercream frosting and columns between the layers in addition to bundles of fresh lavender roses. The bottom layer was vanilla with pastry-crème filling and a design of fleur-de-lis and bordered scrollwork. The second layer was red velvet with heart-shaped designs. The third layer was German chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and a scrollwork design. The top layer was also vanilla with pastry-crème filling and a design of fleur-de-lis, scrollwork, and a teardrop border. The layer featured the initials “LGJ” in honor of the bride and groom. The cake was topped with a custom-made bride and groom figurine with the bride holding a bouquet of lavender roses.
The groom’s cake was German chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and a Chicago Bears emblem of orange and navy blue sitting atop a silver stand.
On the evening before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the bride and groom in the Christian Life Center. Other pre-wedding celebrations included an engagement party at Provinos in Rome, a couple’s shower at Georgia Highlands College given by co-workers of the bride, a couple’s shower at Floyd Medical Center given by co-workers of the groom, and a bridesmaid’s luncheon hosted by the bride at LaMarie’s Restaurant in Rome. A second reception will also be held at a later date at the home of the couple.
After a trip to Niagara Falls, N.Y., the couple will reside in Silver Creek.
