The Shorter baseball team extended its winning streak to five games on Tuesday night by sweeping a non-conference road doubleheader from host Albany State, 5-1 and 13-4.

The Hawks, who opened the season with nine straight losses, have now won six of their last seven outings and seven of their past 11, including sweeping a three-game series with Gulf South Conference foe Union University last weekend.

Russell Crosby earned the win in Game 1 on Tuesday for Shorter, tossing six strong to improve to 1-4 on the year. Brodie Orr threw the seventh to close out the win.

Ben Stell turned in four innings of work in Game 2 for his first win of the year, evening his record to 1-1. Micah Thompson entered in relief and pitched the fifth and sixth innings while Charles Thurman closed matters out in the nightcap by tossing the seventh.

Offensively, Cal Hardie led the way going 6-for-9 in the two games. Willie Lewis went 2-for-5 and drew four walks, Darius Jennings tallied two hits in the series to go along with three free passes and Jesse Gavigan and Walker Borneman recorded three hits apiece for Shorter in the sweep.

This weekend, the Hawks return to GSC play with a three-game series against West Georgia in Carrollton. The series begins on Saturday 16 with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
