A select group of students spent their first day of Intersession break competing in the 7-AA Region Literary Meet on Friday, March 8 at Trinity Baptist Church in Calhoun. Not only was it a school vacation day for the teens involved in the competition, but it was also a reduced work schedule day for some of the teachers involved as several schools were closed for the teacher planning day due to furlough.

Spending the day competing in academic contests while most of their peers were taking the day off from school was not a problem for the Pepperell team. Eight individual category awards were collected by the Dragons. The team also came away with third overall in the region.

Region category placements included:

Girls' Essay - Savannah Crabbe, 4th place

Boys' Essay - Bill Crowe, 2nd place

Girls' Dramatic Interpretation - Savannah Crabbe, 3rd place

Boys' Extemporaneous Speaking - Jonathan Dennis, 2nd place

Girls' Solo - Morgan Worsham, 2nd place

Boys' Solo - Caleb Cole, 4th place

Girls' Trio - Miranda McGee, Mary Kate Bagwell, Morgan Worsham, 4th place

Boys' Quartet - Matthew Dempsey, Tyler Dobson, Michael Payne, Caleb Cole, 2nd place

This is wonderful. However, I think it should be mentioned that many of the FIRST PLACE winners were from Rome High School and going to state this weekend!!!

This is a press release from the Floyd County Schools. If Rome would like to send us the information we would be happy to publish it.

First, congratulations to the students and thank you to the dedicated teachers who prepared them. I wish the article would have included the teacher's names.

As a 7-AA event why no mention of Armuchee, Coosa, or Model? Did they not participate or did they not have any students place?
