The Athens Banner-Herald reports that 42-year-old Joseph Richard Craft pleaded guilty to malice murder in the January 2011 choking death of 60-year-old Larry James David during a fight in the victim's tent.
In a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped two counts each of felony murder and aggravated assault.
When police first learned of David's death, they didn't believe he had died from foul play because officers saw no obvious sign of injuries. But an autopsy revealed that the hyoid bone in David's throat had been fractured due to strangulation, and Craft was arrested.
