Tracy Bailey, office manager at the church, said adults and students must raise $1,120 per person to attend the trip on May 26-31, so they’re having a Boston butt fundraiser.
“Every person attending this trip is really excited to go but it is expensive,” Bailey said. “That’s why we’re having this fundraiser. It is a great way for everyone to work together and raise money.”
Bailey said her mother-in-law purchased the smoked pork during last year’s fundraiser, and they enjoyed it. “The butts are super tasty and the money spent on them goes toward a good cause.”
The church’s Men’s Ministry will smoke the butts at the Rome Civic Center the night before and there are 200 tickets available for purchase.
To purchase a ticket for a Boston butt, call Bailey at Hollywood Baptist Church at 706-234-6642. The tickets will be presold for $25 each, and the deadline to purchase a ticket is March 24. The meat will be distributed March 30 at the civic center from 8 a.m. to noon and again from 2 to 3 p.m.
“The mission trip will include adding a well on to the church, which is in the process of being constructed in Ichmul, Mexico,” Bailey said. “We will help give the church their water supply.”
Hollywood Baptist Church will take part in another fundraiser to raise more money for the mission on April 12 at Shane’s Rib Shack from 5 to 9 p.m. where a percentage of the restaurant’s sales will go toward the cause.
