4 charged with child endangerment

CENTRE, Ala. — Cherokee County (Ala.) Sheriff Jeff Shaver said four adults were arrested on drug and child endangerment charges at a County Road 49 residence.

According to Shaver:

Deputies accompanying Cherokee County Department of Human Resources staff members to the house noticed the smell of synthetic marijuana. They detained the adults and obtained a search warrant while DHR staffers contacted other family members and created a safety plan for the children.

Charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and chemical endangerment of a child were filed against Joey Dean Mullins II, 24; June Renee Mullins, 24; and Benita Jordan Penland, 58, all of Cedar Bluff, Ala., and Bobby Dewayne Wright, 32, of Leesburg, Ala.
