Biden held the belated celebration Wednesday — a day after he returned from Rome for the pope's installation — in honor of Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny at his Naval Observatory residence.
The annual breakfast included Irish music, along with traditional cuisine including Irish soda bread.
Biden, wearing a green tie and handkerchief, proclaimed he's five-eighths Irish before reading a poem dated 1919 by his grandfather, Edward Francis Blewitt.
Kenny visited the Capitol with President Barack Obama and the White House for a reception on Tuesday.
