Robinson and Temple have confirmed they also acquired franchise rights for Clarke County when they acquired rights to locate a Steak ’n Shake in Floyd County.
Robinson said the partners would not attempt to develop the Athens restaurant until the Rome store is running later this summer. “I’m surprised there wasn’t one over there,” Robinson said of Athens. “You’d think we’d have a pretty good clientele over there.”
Robinson made the trip to Indianapolis to sew up the franchise territories. When Robinson got back, Temple didn’t express any interest initially. “Then he said it was going to be Steak ’n Shake, and I said, ‘Yeah, I believe I do,’” Temple said.
Robinson said they have no other locations planned right now but would not rule out seeking other franchises now that Steak ’n Shake has decided that all future stores would be franchises instead of company stores.
Corporate officials are still reviewing final plans for the Rome store, which will be located where the closed Johnny Carino’s now stands. Temple said he hopes to get a green light to start work at the Turner McCall Boulevard location early next month. The first phase of that work will be to tear down the Johnny Carino’s building.
